News Desk: Bangladesh urged the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to strengthen its support to the member states in agro-industry development and food security, access to sustainable energy, waste management, and value chain development during the 50th session of the Industrial Development Board of UNIDO.
Delegations from all the 170 member states of UNIDO are attending this 3-day high level meeting in Vienna.
Mr. Rahat Bin Zaman, Charge d’Affaires, a. i. (CDA) of Bangladesh Permanent Mission in Vienna is leading the Bangladesh delegation to this Session and has delivered the country statement in the high-level opening plenary today. While highlighting the rapid industrial development of Bangladesh in recent years, the CDA appreciated UNIDO for partnering with Bangladesh to improve industrial productivity and competitiveness of the private sector, to enhance export capability, and to ensure environmental sustainability through technical cooperation programme.
He urged UNIDO to mobilize climate finance, transfer clean and innovative technologies from the developed to the developing countries, strengthen human skills and capacities for achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) while embracing the fourth industrial revolution (4IR). UNIDO’s role has become more important for inclusive and sustainable industrial development to build environmentally sustainable, carbon- neutral and resilient planet, Mr. Zaman added.
Bangladesh called upon the UNIDO member states to take collective action to address poverty, climate change and the accelerating loss of biodiversity and resources critical for the survival of humankind.
